Stopped off for a coffee and scone after walking the dogs. Went in and asked if there was anywhere we could sit with 2 dogs. They said they have a courtyard accessible from a side alley . The gate has to be open from the inside as it is bolted. Perfect! Waitress filled a water bowl with fresh water for the dogs. We had coffee, sandwich and scones with real clotted cream. Excellent. The cafe is second to none. Service great. Prices fair. It's right up there with its heritage. Authentic feel with royal connections. You can sit next to a train carriage or wander through the old royal waiting room. Well done...suggest you advertise dogs can go in courtyard though as we saw a couple of people with dogs hesitate to go in and then walked on past.

Visited for afternoon tea, and it was lovely - as close to perfection as I've had in Aberdeenshire! Nice selection of sandwiches and a generous scone and cake / patisserie platter. The scone plate had real clotted cream too - fancy!! The tearoom itself is immaculately done out, and the waiting staff were spot on. It's a bit pricey, but I would highly recommend a visit.

Delightful Saturday evening meal at the Bistro. Rarely is a meal out with young children relaxing, but the friendly attentive service, the private booths, and the delightful decor kept kids and adults both happy. The food was good quality and reasonably priced too. A win-win for our little family! 😁

Was very disappointed last night with GF selection so decided to have started as main course. Waitress although lovely had to go away several times to ask about GF. Surely staff should be trained to know these things. Got starter size portion, not main course portion! Waitress hadn't noticed. I asked for some GF bread which arrived warm as if it had come out of the freezer and was unappetizing. Only side dish that would have suited was salad leaves....not very filling. Goat's cheese etc was delicious. I told the manager re portion size and was offered another but was away to have dessert. Eton Mess was gorgeous as was wine. Great atmosphere but this put a wee damper on our evening, especially with guest from abroad. Was there a couple of weeks ago and had a gorgeous sirloin steak and would have had it again but it wasn't on the menu. The special, beef stroganoff, wasn't GF. Shame it couldn't have been made GF as the ingredients must have been there.

Refurbished Ballater Station which was destroyed by fire. They have enclosed the old Ballater Station platform, with Royal train carriage, within the new cafe which contains a separate private tearoom for this wanting a little more peace and quiet. Our family of four ate a snack lunch (see pics) and it came to £25.50. The new combined info centre, library, shop and this cafe has been tastefully done especially the platform conservatory which is very bright and spacious. Sure it will be extremely busy during the tourist season.

A friendly well stocked cafe, with history. Light and spacious but still retains its victorian heritage. An asset to Ballater.
