Booked at short notice as very close to the airport and fantastically close to M5 for homeward journey. Lovely greeting from staff showed around by the lovely landlady. Rooms were very comfortable bathroom was just gorgeous and after a week away with only a shower to be greeted by such a sumptuous bath was a blissful way to soak away the long flight . We had a very lovely steak again made welcome by the staff a very positive experience. Breakfast was a help yourself continental style but very adequate. Whilst at breakfast spoke with another customer who informed me this lovely young couple are new to the pub and have plans to introduce a full breakfast menu in due course. I look forward t staying here again when I next use Bristol airport
Lovely Sunday roast. The staff are super lovely and accommodating and the food was tasty. Portions seemed on the small side but were actually perfect with an extra side and pudding. They were packed so definitely book ahead of time.
What a find on my way to rip off Bristol Airport. Didn't look much from the front but a different story at the entrance at the back. Where to start :- came in through a huge beer garden with bench seating on grass then lots of wooden tables and chairs on chippings with lighting crisscrossing the whole area. A dining/seated area looked into the garden with huge windows making it a bit of a conservatory. Inside a bar and a lounge with comfortable seating with an olde worlde feel. A smart restaurant with a tasty menu was also available. It was mid afternoon when we called and we had a club sandwich and a tapas plate and it was delicious. As it is also a hotel I shall certainly be looking to take a room there if I have an early flight or lunch if it's in the afternoon. Highly recommended , it's definitely a place I intend to visit again. The staff were helpful and the service was great.
Popped in for Sunday Lunch. It was really good, perfectly cooked beef and loads of well cooked veg.
The new landlord and landlady were very welcoming - I wish them every success.
Very promptly gave us a table to eat at such short notice. Food was absolutely delicious, staff were friendly, nice quiet atmosphere. Overall a wonderful experience after a long day 😌 will definitely visit again in the future. -Kayleigh & Graham
Lovely pub , Matt and Mag the new managers were very welcoming and friendly.
Took friends, excellent food!!
I reserve 5 stars for Michelin-Star quality and 5-Star hotels and restaurants. This week, I stayed one night with my daughter, for work reasons. We both had the best night’s sleep!
The relatively new managers and staff were extremely welcoming and helpful.
The George at Backwell is a Punch brwery establishment; it is solo-traveler, disabled-friendly, family-friendly, and dog-friendly; Although, the 7 bedrooms are up steep winding stairs and therefore NOT accessible to wheelchair users. The rooms were spacious and clean with super comfortable Kingsized beds, comfortable chairs, modern en-suite bathrooms, high quality ethically and environmentally friendly vegan toiletries, and high quality bed linens and soft generous towels; throughout, the George was very clean and welcoming with a fabulous typically charming yet modern British Country Inn decor, frequented by colourful, local and diverse clientele. Situated close to Bristol Airport, Bristol Ports, and surrounding beautiful countryside, a short drive from beautiful leisurely coastlines, The George has a lovely outside courtyard with seating and al fresco tables and a dog-watering barrel. There was good wheelchair-accessible access throughout the ground floor from the carpark through the courtyard to the
bar, restaurant and toilets. Many cyclists and dog-walkers called in for a drink, and chat, throughout the day evening, along with local farmers, drivers, and other business and leisure travellers; not surprising given the great choice of draught and bottled drinks, good quality teas and barista’s coffees.
I would stay here again just as soon as the full bar/restaurant menu is available, and the self-serve breakfast choices have been improved. Thank you Grace, Natalia, Ollie, David, Steve and Sue for making our short stay so enjoyable, and for making us feel “at home away from home”.
After reading the reviews, it was safe to say my expectations were very low. However, the staff are lovely people and I sympathise with how understaffed they are - doing the best they could. I agree with the other reviews about the menu, whoever wrote it is very skilled it making it sound better than it was. I recommend the mushroom pie if you’re going to eat here as it’s a huge portion! but yes, overpriced.
All this place is truly needs is toast with breakfast, other than that it was a very memorable stay!
Went for a meal with the other arf, nice food and well priced for the quality. Cannot comment on the rooms as stayed elsewhere.
Called in there from our way back from Bristol Airport, food was great, service was also really nice and friendly. Top marks keep it up.
Visited this pub for the first time, delicious burger, staff were lovely and great atmosphere!
Booked Sunday lunch. Nice meal would recommend. Good service and welcoming by staff.
