We are local(ish) and had seen the Yew Tree whilst driving through the village a few weeks ago. It was my birthday yesterday and we decided to eat here in the evening. We chose a table outside as it was warm. Parking was easy due to the car park around the back. We saw our table immediately as there was a brightly painted bottle with 'Happy Birthday' on it (nice touch), and the service from then on in was excellent. All drinks, starters, mains and desert were delicious and excellently cooked and presented. Often, when you choose to sit outside for a meal, you can be 'forgotten' not at the Yew Tree! The young lady serving us was exceptional and had a great sense of (appropriate) humour, and nothing was too much trouble. I would recommend The Yew Tree for its excellent variety of drinks, delicious food, atmosphere, and brilliant service. Thank Yew for making my evening special. 💯

This is a proper village pub in a picturesque setting. The place itself is very cosy but with tasteful decor and a stove fireplace which was lit when we arrived. There is plenty of outdoor seating available too. The waitress who greeted us was really friendly and helpful and took the time to have a little chat with us. There's a good selection of beers on offer including Madri, Pravha and Purity Session IPA. We came for lunch so I ordered the meatball ciabatta sandwich which comes with chips. All very delicious but most difficult to eat...it's a big old sandwich that! I really liked the addition of the pesto and the fact that the bread comes from a local bakery👌 I felt like all the food was very affordable but really good quality stuff! Worth mentioning also that they are dog friendly. We really enjoyed our visit and agreed we'd go again soon!

Before I start the review, I just want to state that Avon-Bassett is literally the cutest village I've ever come across, and I want to move here as quick as humanly possible. Anyway, onto the pub. First up, it is situated on the most idillic street with gorgeous houses, buildings and churches. The road is a throughfare, so do watch out with children and dogs, especially as Severn Trent were doing some local tankering! The staff were quick to attend to us as we found a table out front, and they quickly dished up some menus. As it was Sunday, we did opt for the traditional roast, with us sharing a Moules Mariniere starter. The pub has a whole host of local beers which was a real treat, I tried the bitter and the amber ale and my partner had malbec. Both were amazing. The starter was INCREDIBLE. I like mussels, but this sauce was unreal. I wish we hadn't shared it... I even asked if I could buy a jar of the stuff, then thought better of my health, considering the amount of cream and butter. Onto the roast. We went for sirloin and chicken. Alas, a little disappointing. The meat was really good (the sirloin was incredible), but the accompanying elements all fell a little short. The potatoes looked very anaemic (admittedly fluffy inside), side vegetables a little sad (carrots were hard, which was a bit unpleasant), and Yorkshire pud a little stodgy and the gravy a little thin. The accompanying cauliflower cheese was very good and plentiful. The meal wasn't bad, but perhaps scores a 7/10. Overall the venue gets a 5* on the basis we had a lovely afternoon, the place had a really nice vibe, staff friendly and the pub just overall really nice. Definitely would visit again, but perhaps to try some of the other menu items.

Such great food and service. Crispy beef salad was such a treat, followed by one of THE best chicken burgers I have eaten 👌

The beef roast was so tasty and don’t miss the cauliflower cheese as a side option. Delicious. Great selection of ales. Good service, dog friendly, and a lovely garden and patio if you want to sit outside.

First visit to this county and this pub. Overall, an extremely good offering and very friendly, confident staff...we felt very well looked after. The food was surprisingly high quality, enjoyed in the pretty garden. Home made ice cream is served from The Shack within the garden and it's excellent. If you're near by, check it out or plan a visit, you won't be disappointed.

We decided to stop at the Yew Tree for a Sunday roast after our walk around button dassett. The staff are lovely and polite, we had to wait a while for our food but the manager kindly acknowledged and updated us and apologised as they had a lot of big tables. The food was amazing, we will be returning - a very good spot.

Comment on the 2nd of June : Hi Jack, thanks for your kind and thoughtful response. You are right, I shouldn’t put a bad review on the basis of some customers who are absolutely not appropriate for a decent place like yours. My review amendment is absolutely on the basis of your great gesture. You left option for me so I could reach out to you personally which I did. This is what I call a great approach to a business that you own. Not from just monetary angle rather owning your role to it and do the right things for your customer and business. I must say those two gorgeous dogs in the pub and their warm welcome is the best part of that visit. I would be happy to meet them again. Until then take care. ————————————— My daughter and I went with my husband and put two dogs. We got very unpleasant racist energy there. We are brown and my husband is a white Brit. He didn’t feel comfortable at all. Two local females were giving us very nasty look. My husband has 25k followers on social media. We are considering to warn other mix race couples and families like us about this negativity of this place.

A very chilled out Sunday lunch + ice-cream (vegan ) from the garden shack. Be patient waiting for your ice-cream, enjoy the garden & one eyed cat! A really welcoming atmosphere for all. Thank you Yew Tree staff, very attentive.
