Reviews The Crown Inn

My wife, 2 dogs and myself had just finished a circular walk from Askrigg. The Crown Inn was at the end of out walk. It was quarter to two on a Sunday afternoon, we were hungry and called in to see if they were still serving food as I thought we were a bit late. The barman was very friendly and said they were still serving lunches, so we ordered Sunday lunch for two. The service was very good and the meal was the best lunch we had had in a pub for a very long time. The bar itself was warm and inviting with a large old fashioned range with a real fire. The beer was also very nice. I would not hesitate to eat here again, and would recommend it to anybody.

Eaten here three times during our stay in Askrigg. Can't fault the food some of the best I have had anywhere in Britain. Well cooked, plentiful and well priced. Also good selection of beer and a lively local atmosphere. Not forgetting the nice staff. Will be back!

We had a few bevvies, and I had steak pie, the other half had vegi lasagne, it was lovely pub grub. Friendly staff, and made to feel welcome. We have since called in most days after a long walk for a beer, and again made to feel welcome. Even remembering our drinks each time. Highly recommended

We stayed in Askrigg for 3 nights and intended trying each of the 3 pubs in the village. Crown Inn was up first as just over the road from our cottage. Great food, lovely beers, friendly staff especially Becky, and friendly locals (not always the case in our experience). Never made it to the other 2 pubs spent all 3 nights there. Hope to visit again soon, Liz and John

A very traditional pub, fantastic food and excellent service despite being very full. First come first served for tables for food. Good banter with the locals too! And when you get custard, you really get custard.

Stopped off here on the off chance as we didn't want to cook on our last night - a Friday. Really glad we did! Was expecting to wait for a table as they were busy, but managed to get sat straight away! Lovely pub, friendly locals and staff and the food was fantastic - home made, tasty and value for money too! They are dog and child friendly and cater for smaller appetites too - useful, as pregnant daughter can't manage full meals just now... Can highly recommend the steak pie, giant Yorkshire and beef casserole! Delicious!! Will definitely be coming back on our next visit to the Dales!

A warm welcome in this busy dog friendly Inn this Sunday lunchtime. Good pint of Gamekeeper. The Sunday roast, a beef & a pork, were delicious and wholesome. Followed by an apple crumble & a jam bakewell, both with custard, no frippery, just good solid Yorkshire dining. Clean and tidy establishment, friendly clientele. Good value and recommended.

Fresh deco, clean, good simple (non fried) food. Lovely 'bear garden' in the hillside in the back to catch some sun... Finally came across a pub on our staycation in the North that had non fried food. (We had omlett with choice of fillings, backed potatoes with choice of toppings)

Have gone to this pub several times on every walking holiday over many years. The food is excellent, all home made, and a great selection at very reasonable prices. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The open fires on a cold day after a walk or in the evening with a beer/wine and a meal are very welcoming.

Stopped for lunch in this welcoming pub with friendly locals. I enjoyed a Prawn roll with chips and my husband had a sweet chilli chicken roll with chips. Both were served quickly and as a generous portion, would recommend if you are in the area! Dog friendly inside too!

Had a pleasant 2 hours there on 29th June 2019 ; watching the coast to coast cycle race pass by whilst eating lunch on an outside table. Very cosy old style local pub; nice in the winter with a fire blazing. This was a hot 26C day outside though. Ordered from the sandwich collection ; chicken breast with sweet chilli, and tuna with sweetcorn, both accompanied by chips and salad. Finish serving meals at 2pm until the night. Friendly owner and staff; very pleasant. Not a crumb left on either plate; really nice. Varied menu but everything not always available on a given day. Nicely prepared.

Loved this village pub. Obviously the locals pub as it was full of farmers. We didn't have anything to eat, but from what we saw it looked good and plentiful. Drinks were well priced as well. If in Askrigg drop in and give it a whirl. Bet you go back.
