Review The Old Library - Ashburton

Colin Baker
First time in Ashburton since lockdown....it was very quiet. Found this lovely cafe/brunch place which is very popular. Coffee and some lovely toast ( homemade bread ) with a mixed berry jam. It was absolutely delicious. Lots of types of breakfast on the board and they looked very nice when they were coming out. Quite expensive. Similar prices to what we would pay in London. Good ambiance....Good service

A delightful little cafe/restaurant that was offering a lovely range of brunch options when we visited. Felt like a nice mix of London artisan cuisine with a Devonshire town vibe. Might seem pricey to some, but you get very tasty and well presented dishes. We had a salmon and cream cheese croissant, some bacon, egg and avocado croissants, and huevos rancheros. Yum!

Having set out to explore Dartmoor and being thwarted by closed roads and badly signposted diversions we found ourselves in Ashburton. We enjoyed a lovely coffee in The Old Library and went back later for their Old Library Breakfast. It was all freshly cooked, presented very well, and was delicious, especially good were the Homemade Beans. All the staff were friendly and polite, a special mention goes to Meg. Thanks for turning what could have been a disappointing outing to a delightful one

Chefs Joe & Amy do an amazing job of creating simple dishes, packed full of flavour and pinache without being modernistically fiddly. Every ingredient has a purpose, they really understand how to get best out of their produce. Portions sizes are great and priced realistically. Front of house team are attentive, efficient and friendly. A semi hidden gem (in a back street) that I discovered by accident. I look forward to returning on my future trips to Ashburton.

Nice little cafe. Gets busy quite quickly in the early morning. Their cooked breakfast is a bit odd though..the 'beans' were far too hot and spicy 🔥 for any of us to eat. Good coffee and tea etc.. probably best to stick with that

Had breakfast at the Old Library yesterday with my wife. We both had the OLB Full breakfast. It was superb, thanks Amy & Jo, and your whole team. We come here as often as we can and have never been disappointed. The standard of the food, the lovely friendly staff and the atmosphere are all first class. A very special place. Thank you

Overall it was very good. I am taking a star away since my pork was a little over done but perhaps this is the way it is cooked in the UK.

WOW! What a vibe, what exquisite food and service with a smile too. Without a doubt the very best bacon and egg sandwich takeaway we’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying! Your orange drizzle cake also was out of this world too! Honestly, Amy and Joe, you’re incredible chefs and hosts, thank you for such a lovely treat and one we look forward to again soon! C&C x

Great brunch in this gem right in the centre of Ashburton. Food, cooking & service excellent.

Came here twice for brunch (actually because some more local places let us down with closed kitchens). Had the veggie breakfast and made it vegan by removing the egg for which the cost was reduced (a lovely touch considering we normally have to pay the same price despite having less). The sausages were great - so realistic that we had to check with the waitress! They sometimes have vegan cakes too. Dog friendly and nice staff. Space was a premium on the first day but we sat outside in the sun.

Lovely food and lots of it. Which makes the price very good! Lovely atmosphere and quiet music really make this place!

Absolutely beautiful meal. Everything was cooked to perfection with obvious love and care. Staff are lovely. You get what you pay for and the food served here is outstanding. The chocolate and sticky stout pudding was to die for. This place is a great find- you will not be disappointed, highly recommended!

We really like this place. The staff are friendly and attentive and the place is clean. The breakfasts they do are the best. The difference here is they use decent ingredients not cheap catering sausages and so forth so the outcome is super tasty. They are a young bunch but they could teach a lot of other places how to do a breakfast properly. Carry on the good work.

Brilliant food cooked by two young chef's who work hard and deserve all the accolades that come their way! A great place to eat, a lovely atmosphere with good staff. If you want fine dining without paying the earth this is the place to go!

We asked a local where we could get the best breakfast and so was pointed to The Old Library. He was so right.... The breakfast was amazing all so incredibly tasty. My sons had the croissant avocado scrambled eggs bacon again delicious and the plum jam great. Such a lovely open setting.. Good luck we will return.

My wife Sarah and myself have eaten here on many an occasion, both by ourselves and with friends and family. Every dish and every mouthful has been an absolute delight. Joe and Amy have filled a missing gap in the culinary ensemble of eating establishments in Ashburton......excellent upper-notch food at a decent price. It has been great to see this establishment develop over the past few months, to its present well-renowned status.

Well it's great to have somewhere on a Sunday morning. The food was great but the customer care is not there yet. Although it was only ten and was serving till 10.30 some customers were told service was finished . Our breakfast was lovely although the bacon was missing at first and the toast came 5 mins after the breakfast. A floor manager would help. On the whole though will go back as the staff were friendly if unsure.

Thank you so much Joe and Amy and all the staff for a super delicious Sunday Roast (the best I have had for a long time!). The atmosphere was relaxing and very family friendly. We will definitely recommend to others and think it is great value for money and look forward to our next family gathering in your beautiful restaurant.

I was lucky enough to get a table on the first night of the eagerly anticipated opening last night. The food was outstanding! The Asian Belly Pork was divine. If you are a foodie dinning at the Old Library is a must! 10 out of 10.

Went for Drinkies only....... Ended up with the most scrummy tasting menu. More allergies than you could cope with between us , but it was all taken very much in their stride. Wine was delightful food divine. Cracking evening.
