Lovely shop and great food. You can eat in and although pretty cosy you don't feel cramped.

Birds / the gingerbread shop. Range of eat in options available. Good cooked breakfasts. Staff are pleasant and service is quick. Take out sandwiches and pasties are are available at the counter. Take away sausage cobs are lovely, as are the cream slices. Reasonable prices for the quality of food. Pre packed sandwiches often sell out quickly at lunch so don’t leave it late. You can park close by on the market place (pay & display)

Called in for a lunchtime snack, having passed it earlier, and seeing how busy it was, we thought it must be good! It was, only a Toastie and a coffee, but pleasant, helpful staff and very nice food. It was constantly busy, but they then stopped the hot food service, unsure why, and people thinned out a little - a goldmine I think.

What a joy to visit a long established tea shop/bakery. Immaculately presented, fantastic hot coffee and a great selection of cakes.

The name Gingerbread is actually misleading as they do many varieties of pastries. Our favourite was the cream donut. We order twice in 5 mins! Love staff as well! Highly recommend!

Frequented this place for some yrs now, most of staff are the same, very nice people! Although cramped when dining downstairs , the food choice is extensive, tasty and good value for your pennies. It's an old building so don't expect high glamour posh decor, it just doesn't befit the building! It is always busy, you may not get a table, but hopefully you will. The staff are knowledgeable and are ever ready to help with any question. Once you've finished your meal, they sell cakes etc to take away, so treat yourself. I would bypass most shops to dine in this one, it's a nice atmosphere

Having been attracted by the appetising appearance of the cakes & bread in the window display, we ventured inside and bought a some rolls. The clean, friendly, traditional establishment was not short of customers of all ages or staff, who were clearly happy in their work. In fact, all staff we met greeted us with a smile & freely engaged in friendly chit-chat, helping to make us welcome. Thanks to that, we vowed to go back after a further walk round the town for our mid-morning drink. The welcome remained as warm upon our return. We ordered a black coffee, a hot chocolate and a tea cake to share. Service was prompt and polite. Having enjoyed our scrumptious tea cake, we purchased a pack for ourselves and one to give to the in-laws. We also bought two pasties - a Cornish and a cheese & onion type, which we decided would go nicely for our evening meal. We (my mrs & I) agreed that like the rest of the shop & seating area, the loos were kept spotless. We will visit again when we return to the nice traditional market town that is Ashbourne. In short, The Ashbourne Gingerbread Shop comes highly recommended.

Yummy treats for everyone in the family and a very high standard. You can eat the pastries and other meals in the cafe or you can take some things home instead. We often eat the bread rolls from here and they're delicious! It can be a bit pricy though so only go for a real treat.
