Excellent food. beautifully cooked and presented. Good range of choices and some very nice sounding specials. Would recommend it. Pity its an hours drive away for us.
Our second time here. Sat by the fire with a glass of wine as we arrived early. Charming, friendly staff. Wonderful menu to choose from. I had the sirloin of beef, I hate fat so asked for all to be removed which was not an issue for them. When it arrived I had three good slices of perfectly cooked, tender meat. The Yorkshire and potatoes were as good as a home cooked meal. We will definitely be returning again.
Such a lovely pub, the staff were all lovely, service was fast and the food was great. Definitely one to recommend and indeed one to plan trips out around!
Had an amazing Roast Beef Lunch today! One of the best ever! Lovely staff made us feel welcome! Beautiful Pub & just enjoyed every minute there! Definitely be going back!
A favourite pub for us, usually after Wakehurst Place. Delicious food, good Badgers beer, and nothing is too much trouble for the staff.
Had a lovely lunch yesterday, belated family Christmas. The good was excellent and the staff were lovely. It's the best pub in the area!
We Had a lovely Sunday roast pork & beef. It was very tasty good size portions. Pub was Very busy but was served promptly with drinks & food. Staff very friendly. Would definitely recommend.
Impeccable service from all, lovely food, drinks and would highly recommend. Pub also has a lovely, friendly atmosphere. Xx
I went here today with 2 friends and my children. It was a lovely atmosphere clean tidy and very welcoming. The outside area was lovely but chose to stay indoors.
The service was amazing, and our order went in and we got drinks and food very quickly.
Food was outstanding and the lovely gentleman that served us was very kind and helpful.
Will definitely be going back for drinks and food soon.
My best Sunday roast so far, beef were juicy with big size Yorkshire pudding. Beer batter fish & chips were crispy.
Nice Garden seats environment, and friendly staffs.
Looking forward for next visit.
Considering it was early on a Monday evening, there was a nice vibe at the pub. We were sat right at the back (probably for the best with two of the not exactly quietest kids in tow) but were served quickly. Good food choices for the vegans amongst us and drink choices for the drivers. Had the double cheeseburger which was delicious and my wife polished off her pork belly salad no problem. Good choices for the kids too and waiting staff were really attentive to drink top ups and additional requests. Mains on the pricey side but expected for the area we were in. Nice treat!
Such a lovely pub, you better reserve on weekends since they are usually fully booked.
The pub garden also offers great area for sitting. Too bad that when we arrived it was rainy and all seats were soaked.
Good Sunday roast. Great choice of ales and beers. Outside and inside seating. Carpark available. Card only.
I've been visiting here once or twice a year for a few years now, for lunch and a catch-up chat with an old friend (who picks me from the station drives there).
During the colder months the place is always packed and during the warmer days there's more room inside while everyone else sits outside.
The service is top notch: nothing to fault it. Being unaware of what nduja butter was (to go with my steak) I had to ask, and the response was courteous and informative.
The steak was good by the way.
I'd recommend this place to any of my friends.
Service charge is optional but I wanted to give a tip. Before tapping your card there are option buttons for the percentage to be added to the total.
Great coay pub, had Sunday lunch roast beef and fish and chips - so good, enormous portions and very tasty! Great service too
Excellent food and lovely staff in a very good location!
Like the interior decor , nice and cozy ambience, food is average not very fancy on presentation. A place you can spend time with friends , staff are nice
We decide to get fresh air and lunch while the sun come up and covid situation a bit better.
We cam here before and had sunday roast lunch with friends. I knew I will be back here and try other menu as previous luch are really good. Place is easy to find on map. It has big capacity car park. We love the outdoor area however this time the wind suddenly a bit strong so we decide to sit inside.
We need to scan barcode for NHS apps when we arrive. Staff locate the guest in distance, so we feel comfortable.
Food was delicious and the portion were big. The bread was good and enough to make u occupied before main course arrive.
My main course was big portion, however I manage to finish it as it taste so good. My husband had pie steak which is very good too.
The food were come very quick and we like it. Staff asked us to take it from the tray. Keep the social distance, which is good. We really want to have dessert but no room for it.
We will back again and try other menu. We saw something that we would like to try 😁Really recommend this place.
And the staff are soo friendly and this place also dog friendly.
Four of us popped in for meal - fish pie was superb. Other meals very nice. Waitresses were very nice. Quite dark inside, nice area outside. Opposite the south of England showground
Enjoyed a large portion of sunday roast. The potato and leak soup was also enjoyable.
Wide variety of wines and draft beers. Yorkshire pudding did appear to be home made.
A real old world pub, with a large selection of ales and Gins, the food was amazing. Highly recommend.
Popped in for a light bite after an event at the South of England Event Centre across the road and we both ended up having the Sunday roast. Delicious and generous, great to have the option of extra Yorkshire puddings and gravy. Good quality, reasonably priced, friendly staff.
Stopped for lunch with friends and our dogs after visiting nearby Wakehurst Place. Pleasant garden and outside seating areas in sun and shade. Large car park and a short drive from Ardingly. Cosy inside if cooler or wet weather. Friendly staff and good service, it was fairly quiet when we visited on a sunny and hot Thursday lunchtime. Food was good although appeared to be a standard menu we've recently had elsewhere - disappointing no sandwiches on the menu though and main courses not cheap. Still worth a visit though and if in the area we'd happily visit here again.
A nice and relaxed food lead pub.. I found the staff freindly and helpful and the food was pretty good. and not a bad portion size, offering unlimited Yorkshire and gravy..with the roast dinner. However I have just a few minor criticisms..
1...The roasted half chicken I ordered was a bought in product... Not very good for a pub of that calibre..
2...Peas do not belong on a roast dinner, it's cheap and nasty..
3..no brocoli or any fresh vegetables that are in season, ...that's a shame..
4...A VERY SMALL Sunday evening menu, all the best stuff from the usual menu was removed, so as to minimise wastage from the Sunday roast items probably, and I'm guessing also so the chef patron could have Sunday evenings with her family.,minimising potential problems, leaving younger and junior staff at the helm to run the shift..
It is fair to say, considering the few very minor grumbles it was a lovely evening and when I return to the area I will pay a visit to the gardeners arms yet again... I recommend a visit..
Watch your head! I’m 6’2” & loved this place, but seriously, watch your head, as the ceilings are 6’ in places. Delicious food & drinks. Friendly staff. Lovely patio. Dog & family friendly. Beautiful old building. That fireplace sitting area was ridiculously amazing. Looking forward to returning.
