My husband and I booked a table for 4 last night, and our table was booked for 7pm. When we got there, we were greeted straight away, with a smile and shown to our table. the service was 1st class, and the food was just amazing, and the views from the table where we were sat were breath taking..The place itself, is also amazing, beautifully laid out, plenty of space, and everything was just wonderful. The service, food, the place, and the views. and the prices are very good to. Well worth a visit. Ist class all the way. and we will defiantly be coming back again..Thank you
Wow! Garth and his gang have done a marvellous job restoring and reworking this old Appledore pub. Tastefully decorated throughout in battleship grey with "steam-punk" fittings, there is a sense of both space and cosiness as you enter. The snug on the left will be a fought-after spot in the winter. The upstairs area incorporates a restaurant area, a covered area overlooking the estuary and an open area. A marvellous place for our post-lunch pint. We didn't eat but the menu looks great, very reasonably priced and changed every day to reflect catches/seasonal stuff. We will be back!
Lovely, fresh place with stunning views over towards Instow. Roast beef meal on Sunday was the best I’ve had in ages. Would highly recommend and wish the owners every success which is much deserved. Thank you
Very impressed! Excellent food and service. Perfect view of the Estuary and over to Instow. A great place, and so glad the old pub has been seized with such a positive vision for the future. Definitely an added attraction for the area. Thank you very much! 😀👍🏻
We had Sunday lunch here today (2Ad, 2Ch) Absolutely delicious food, friendly staff and even though it was raining the view was still stunning from the restaurant . Thank you for making this a lovely birthday treat for me too. Feeling full and relaxed now - perfect
Just had a perfect Sunday lunch, my roast beef was possibly the best I've ever tasted, others in our party highly praised the lamb. Puddings were great too especially the sticky toffee pudding, plum and apple crumble and panacotta with roasted peaches and pistachio. The view from the upstairs balcony on the water's edge is fantastic and the bill very reasonable . Can't wait to come back.
Probably the best meal I’ve had and the scenery, as I would expect for North Devon, breathtaking.
Staff couldn’t be more obliging.
we moved to devon 4 months ago we went in there yesterday and had the crab starter which was really nice you can see why it was so busy would recommend it to anyone in the area
We had a lovely lunch today, with friendly staff and great food..the views from our table were absolutely amazing ...will be back soon
What a fantastic place to eat! One of the best restaurant experiences in all of England tucked away in North Devon. We could not have been more pleased to celebrate my husband’s birthday here for Sunday lunch. Right from the start a friendly greeting, beautiful dog-friendly table overlooking the water, excellent service, delicious food (ample portions). Staff could not have been more accommodating. Special thanks to Holly for making our experience so wonderful. The Royal George would be enough to lure us back to this part of the country.
A big thank you to all the staff at the Royal George for looking after our daughter's wedding so very well. From the initial planning right through to the actual event everything went smoothly. Communication between Sasha & Alison and our daughter/future son-in-law was excellent with tasting menus offered. On the day the staff couldn't do enough for us. The food was beautiful and not the usual wedding fayre. There was plenty of it too with excellent vegetarian options. We heard nothing but praise from the wedding guests. The staff worked really hard to keep everything spotlessly clean. We would particularly like to thank Nicky and the bar team for looking after everyone so well. Overall the staff at the Royal George were fantastic and we can't thank you enough.
Been many times & never had nothing less than a great experience every time. Staff super friendly & great quality of food. Oh the setting isn’t too shabby either!
Fantastic dog friendly place to eat. We had 4 meals here during our week long stay in Appledore. Sunday lunch was one of the best I have had in a long time. We ate here again on the Monday and Thursday evening then had breakfast on the last day of our holiday. The staff are amazing, really friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was fantastic on each visit. I can highly recommend The Royal George, perfect in every way
We love the Royal George! The food is always fantastic, never disappoints.
Though a little pricey, it is worth it for a lovely meal here.
The scallops starter and lamb three ways really stood out, but all dishes are great.
Very good service. Definitely try and book a table upstairs to get the beautiful views of the Appledore estuary!
We booked a breakfast at the Royal George Hotel and was not disappointed, situated in stunning location overlooking the estuary, the service was impeccable. The breakfast itself was fantastic, especially those amazing eggs. If you are looking for a thoroughly good breakfast with a stunning view, then I would recommend The Royal George every time.
We ate in the upstairs restaurant and it was a lovely experience. The views over the water are great and the service and atmosphere was really good. There were a good choice of quite simple dishes with great flavour. Priced very reasonably for the quality. Recommended.
Fantastic hotel in a great location in Appledore. Room we had was great size for a family with separate room for the kids and a balcony overlooking the estuary. Could not have expected anything that good we were so pleased. We had evening food in the restaurant which was great too and a walk around Appledore afterwards. Breakfast was okay with more options needed, only 1 option was allowed whereas we would normally prefer a buffet style breakfast. No parking outside the hotel which we knew about but we got to park not far away and no issues with that. Overall a wonderful place and would love to go back another time.
Went there for lunch and the food was delicious (love the beetroot salmon as starters and great mains too). The menu contains veggie options. The staff was very friendly and the venue is intimate - with few tables facing the Taw river. There is a public parking before to head to the Main Street if you are coming by car.
Taking one star down because the beer served was quite warm - but these things might happen.
What a gem of a place! Fantastic food and a view to die for from the tables. Chef knows how's to cook seafood to perfection, and the Dandelion tart is just magical, plus add the pernod strawberries, and you have one of the nicest deserts I've had! Are we going back? Oh yes, there's more on the menu to try! I have no idea about the rooms as we were on a day out.
Walked into Appledore from. Northam along the SW coastal path and called in on the off chance of a table for lunch. Lovely warm welcome and service. The chicken and the curry mains were beautiful, tasty and presented wonderfully. The deserts, Lemon tarts were equally beautiful. Well done to the kitchen and front of house staff.
Delicious meal to celebrate the Husband's birthday. We all enjoyed our food - the fish curry was great and the dandelion tart for pudding was a first for me and yummy! The staff were all lovely. Will definitely visit again.
I just had the best meal of my life. It was a piece of art. Beautifully presented and perfectly balanced in flavour for both courses. This chef should be Michelin starred if not already. I had the scallops to start, they were beautifully sweet and perfectly soft and tender. For the main, I had the pan-fried Sea Bass with salmon tortellini, mussels, tagine and lemon oil. It was a truly special day eating fantastic food overlooking the estuary. It is a little hard to find but well worth the effort they also have a fantastic selection of wine to pair with whichever artwork you decide on.

Loved this place. We went for my Birthday Sunday lunch and it was just beautiful ❤️ the food, the views and staff were great. Missed out on my favourite pudding as I was too full after starters and main course. Thank you for making us welcome
We visited on the morning of 25th July. I don’t know the waitresses name (mid 30’s brown hair) but wanted to say thank you and say how fabulous her service was. She made our visit very special. What a beautiful location (view was second to none) and great local food. Thank you 🌟
We stopped because it was a very warm beautiful day and I really needed a soft drink.
There were some table and chairs outside, everyone already seated bunched up and gave up the chairs with no one in them. We all got chatting and stayed for a couple of hours enjoying the company of complete strangers.
The location and view of the estuary was wonderful.
We had Family Room on top and Wow...
So nice ....so clean ...Absolutely 5 stars ...
