Appleby is a bit of a hidden gem, a beautiful little town with some lovely shops and pubs, but benefits from being off the tourist trail of Lakes. The Tufton Arms is an excellent location overlooking the main square, historic and Acharacterful inside, with top quality breakfast and friendly professional service.

I had two nights here for work. They must have a good chef because all the evening meals were amazing! Lovely staff. I had no time to explore the town but this is a great location if you do.

Very friendly and helpful young lady, at reception, bar, service, we arrived late, got a nice suite and the chef was waiting for preparing a meal for us. Wonderful. Thank you.

Had a lovely 2 night break. The staff were all friendly and the rooms clean. The bathroom looked new. The hotel is old and has creaking floors but that just adds to its charm. Our room #10 was at the front of the hotel. It has a large window letting plenty of light in. The bed was so comfortable we had 2 great nights sleep. The furniture was dated but it was in keeping with the character of the hotel. We had a drink in the bar which wasn't over priced. Breakfast was hot and plentiful. 1st morning we had the full English, eggs, sausage bacon, mushrooms, beans and black pudding. Great choice if you didn't want a full English. Sour dough bread with salmon and scrambled eggs was a lovely light breakfast on our 2nd morning.

We stayed here for one night - Saturday to Sunday over the weekend and were very pleasantly surprised by everything about the hotel - the room was extremely spacious, clean and nicely decorated with a good view over the centre of the town. The breakfast couldn't have been any better and the location of the hotel was brilliant - right in the centre of Appleby with a short walk to all the shops, cafes, the river and cricket ground. It was also good value for the night and I would definitely recommend.

I stayed in one of the apartments to the rear of the hotel, which was nice and quiet and private, the staff were all lovely and helpful, Even brought an ice bucket and fresh milk without me having to ask. The apartment was modern, clean, tidy and nicely decorated throughout, with Molton Brown toiletries, and parking right outside the front door! (the only thing I could add to this would be some fresh flowers) Great value for money and a a lovely stay and woke up feeling refreshed

Ate at the restaurant yesterday with no expectations set. Food was so good! A fine dining experience. Husband had honey glazed warm figs with Gorgonzola, rocket and radicchio - delicious! I had plaice on the bone as my main - perfectly cooked with a delicious sauce, served with spinach and potato. Service excellent too. I highly recommend this restaurant..

Lovely stop for dinner. The gentleman who was acting as reception, bar staff, and wait staff was obviously busy but supremely gracious and accommodating. The food was perfectly cooked. Excellent dinner experience overall.

Excellent hygiene measures in place due to Corvus 19. Staff friendly and helpful. The room was spacious and clean. The building itself is very enchanting. The food is out of this world. The Chef certainly knows his flavours and I’ve ended up being in love with a vegetarian dish (what!?!) highly recommend staying and eating here.

We enjoyed a splendid lunch with a glass of sauvignon blanc outside. The atmosphere was quite quaint and the food superb. The omelette Arnold Bennett to be commended. A slight wait for food to be served but it was exceptionally busy as the Statesman Rail Pulman was in town. A visit recommended

We had a lovely two night break at the Tufton Arms recently. Our hosts gave a very warm, friendly welcome, and the service was always impeccable. The room was extremely comfortable and well presented. Plenty of tea and coffee and biscuits. Very comfortable bed....bathroom included shower and bath - essential when walking in the Lakes. When we booked we were recommended the Sunday Roast which we had and it was DELICIOUS - locally sourced beef. All the staff without exception couldn't do enough for us and were polite and helpful. We ate all our evening meals here as the service and food was excellent. We will definitely be returning and will recommend to our friends and family.

Had a meal last night for a friends birthday. It seemes a little expensive looking at the menu but after seeing and tasting the food i think it was well worth its money. Very good food. Lovely and clean and warm. So pleased we went there.

Lovely old building and dog friendly. Are the walls flat? No. Are the floors level? No Are the windows plastic and double glazed? No. If you want all that, stay at the Holiday Inn. This is a lovely old building, in a lovely old market town, run by friendly efficient staff who couldn't do enough for us, from the lovely cleaning lady, with the doggy treats to the manager. Would love to return and have no problems recommending.

We were in one of the self-catering rooms directly behind the hotel, which was to our liking, plenty space, clean and tidy. Parking can be a problem at time, we were able to park outside every day. Location is perfect
