Great little spot in Ambleside with a decent selection of beers and a fairly priced menu, slightly less expensive and more laid back than some of the surrounding restaurants. The lasagna was delicious!
Sister pub to the Dog & Gun in Keswick so you know the beer will be 👌🏼. They have a house pale brewed by Greene King which is pretty decent but most of the other ales are from South Cumbria and definitely worth a try.
Great pub, great food, friendly staff, and very quick service. It's definitely a place which you should not skip if going to Ambleside.
Good food, beer and service. Very busy pub, just after the new year. Would recommend.
Lovely pub to dry off next to the roaring fire, especially as it's now got the Christmas decorations up! Serves the wonderful Goulash that has made the Dog & Gun a must visit location when in Keswick. When we discovered that pub was closed for refurbishment we had to make a trip to Ambleside to get
The food and service were really good 🌟 It was just a bit too noisy for our liking Has vegan/vegetarian options

Great traditional pub, friendly atmosphere and one of the more reasonably priced establishments in Ambleside. Staff were welcoming. Though we don’t have a dog ourselves they were welcome in the pub. It was good to chat with other like minded customers about our exploits on the fells. A real friendly

We had lunch here on the 25th April 2025. We hadn't booked, but were made very welcome. Our lunch was freshly cooked, and arrived without much of a wait. We enjoyed our meal, which was really delicious.
Excellent traditional pub with very friendly welcoming staff and a good menu. Serves a variety of real ales and gins amongst other things. Nice atmosphere and popular with the local community.
Probably the best steak & ale pie I've had anywhere. Lovely atmosphere and whole bar full of decent, well kept ale. Would thoroughly recommend.
One of the busier pubs in town, usually full of visitors having a pint after a hike. Good selection of beers including some great cask ales. They serve food, but I've not eaten here. Inside is quite crowded which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you like your pubs (I like a cos
