Dirty fries were incredibly good. My seafood pizza was one of the best I've had. Homemade, hand rolled base. Everything about the ingredients oozed quality. It was our second visit but not our last. First class place.
5 of us went here on Wednesdsy 20th March 2024 whilst on our annual Lakes Trip. We usually go here at least once and it didn't disappoint us. We all had different meals. I had Tuna Steak with roasted sweet potato and tender stem Broccoli with Sriracha butter. Absolutely lovely. We all enjoyed the food. Thank you.
Love tge lasagna, the pasta and the pizza! Don't forget to try their Lake District elderflower gin, whisky and vodka. Their alcohol coffee also very try the Vodka caramel americano, so gooooood ❤️❤️❤️
Great pizza really delicious. They don't take reservations but got a table quickly and food was fast to arr8ve
Rarely nice place offering excellent food and wine. Excellent service. No need to book if eating early.
It’s a bliss that the restaurant is walk-in only — a fair game for wanderers in the busy summer season. We were able to register our phone number and waited in the parking lot nearby :P Food is mostly good, rounded to almost 5 because of the friendly service.
Lamb Ragu gnocchi combines two of my favorite things. Lamb is cooked tender with lean and tendon parts, full of flavors. The gnocchis are huge (larger than the lam chunks!), al dente, a little cheesy and bouncy. Makes me so happy.
Special seafood risotto is wonderful too. Rice is also perfectly cooked, with a little chewiness. Chimichurri tastes more like pesto but delicious nonetheless. Shrimps and squid pieces are nice. The mussels can be a little plumper and fresher. It’s probably frozen— acceptable for the price, though it will help elevate the restaurant (and all non-fine dining Italian restaurants) if fresh products are used in pasta and risotto dishes.
Hazelnut tiramisu is one of the best tiramisu I’ve had. The mascarpone layer is supper fluffy and airy— and hazelnut flavored! The base layer is well soaked in espresso. White chocolate biscotti is a little too sweet.
Ice creams are too sweet.
Garlic aroma was wafting out of the kitchen so we ordered garlic bread. It can be a bit more garlic but the good side is that it’s not too oily either.
Honey mustard wings and olives are alright.
Service is very friendly and helpful.
My wife and I recently had the pleasure of dining at this delightful Italian restaurant, and it exceeded all our expectations. From the moment we stepped through the door, we were greeted with warmth and hospitality. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, setting the stage for an unforgettable meal.
Let’s talk about the food - each dish was a culinary masterpiece, bursting with authentic Italian flavors and made with the freshest ingredients. From the creamy risotto to the savory pasta dishes, every bite was a taste sensation. The attention to detail and passion for cooking truly shone through in every dish we tried.
Not only was the food exceptional, but the service was also great from start to finish. The staff were attentive and friendly, always ready to offer recommendations and ensure that we had everything we needed. Despite the busy evening, we never felt rushed and were able to savor each moment of our dining experience.
Overall, our visit to this Italian restaurant was nothing short of fantastic. We left with full stomachs, happy hearts, and already planning our next visit. If you’re looking for an authentic Italian dining experience with impeccable food and service, look no further than this gem of a restaurant. Buon appetito!
This is a restaurant that does not accept reservations. The menu is quite simple. We ordered the soup of the day, Fritto Misto, and Spaghetti Bolognese as appetizers. The Fritto Misto was very fresh, and the Spaghetti Bolognese was unexpectedly delicious. For the main course, we ordered chili pizza, seafood spaghetti, and Pork belly. The seafood spaghetti was decent, and the pork belly was rich but not greasy, with a perfectly balanced flavor and tender meat. The chili pizza, perhaps due to the beef sauce, was too moist, which significantly affected the texture of the pizza, making it the only downside of the evening. I highly recommend the iced coffee and strawberry ice cream. The service was decent, making it a restaurant worth trying.
Dined here yesterday evening with the kids. They absolutely loved it. Of all the places in Ambleside, this place is my first choice. Prices are very reasonable, the staff are welcoming and always make you feel at home, and the food is out of this world. I may be bias- I eat here at least once a month. But in the 10 plus years of going to Dodds, not once have I had a bad experience (hence my repeat custom). Keep up the hard work!
Whilst it's frustrating the restaurant does not accept reservations, we just dined slighter earlier than we normally would. We could not fault the service, extremely fast and very accommodating to dietary requirements (off menu requests). Would highly recommend and would definitely return.
Nice little restaurant.
Very busy, nice atmosphere.
Good food, friendly staff, felt like a family restaurant.
Really enjoyed our meal.
Lasagne, rocket salad, chicken and leek pizza.
Very nice
Good selection of wine.
Had the mushroom carbonara with truffle oil. It was absolutely fantastic! The espresso was served with a piece of homemade fudge which was the best fudge I’d had in a while! Lovely staff and warm atmosphere!
You can't book a table here, but although it was busy we got a table. The food arrived very quickly after ordering. It was really tasty. I had the mushroom pizza with truffle oil which was delicious. My husband had a toastie that came with freshly made pesto that he absolutely raved about.
Well worth a visit.
Amazing food. Would recommend. Its a very busy place. Staff were really friendly. Only thing I didn't like was when we were at the bar waiting for a table we could see one of the waitresses vaping in the kitchen. I would have eaten here for every meal if I was aloud lol
Came here quite late hoping for food, I think they were starting to clear up for the night, but still served us. Everything was amazing, pork belly, amazing. gnocchi, amazing. Everything right down to the parsnip puree was AMAZING. Definitely come here if you are in Ambleside. 100/10 would highly recommend!!! But sorry for keeping you slightly later guys, even then the food was not rushed, it was perfect. Thankyou for welcoming us late and I hope I can eat here again ☺️
One the the best Italian restaurants in Ambleside, honestly the others are overrated, over priced and have ridiculous waiting times. This restaurant is a much visit if you're looking for the most tasty Italian food.
The service was impeccable, extremely fast and the staff were cheerful and able to meet our dietary requirements
Amazing pork belly. Really good quality of food 100% will be returning soon
Stand out were the pizza ingredients, you could taste they were supreme quality. No stinging out on the portion sizes either, I asked for chicken to be added as a topping and it was covered in thick juice chicken breast. Superb. Also if I'm being critical not enough tomato base.
The lobster ravioli was very good although very heavy.
The main reason why it's marked down to 4 stars was because from being seated to leaving the restaurant was under 25 minutes. This was for me a new record.
Having dined all around the World, I still rate Dodds as one of the best restaurants around! Excellent service and fabulous food! Plus a great atmosphere. What more could you ask?
