I have walked past this place for months and never felt the need to visit.. I came this evening and loved it. Fantastic food and staff, sat outside and chatted with other diners. The food was brilliant. This is a place you need to visit and won't be disappointed. Will return again!
Small place, small simple menu. No fuss. Possibly the best meal we have had outside of southern Italy. Felt like we had just visited Nonna in Puglia for lunch.Food cooked with passion and skill. Enjoyed every morsel. So fresh, a taste sensation! Complimenti!
Gorgeous unique Italian food in Altrincham. Portion size has improved. They have a small menu and will not change any ingredient ( I asked to hold the baby squid ) but that didn’t stop us from enjoying gorgeous delicious tasty food. Very nice wine. Friendly owner/staff
A few reviews mentioned this place was expensive, but you get what you pay for, and Sugo will not disappoint. We don't eat out too often, but this place was amazing. The service and food were outstanding. Taste of Southern Italy dining. If you have the chance, just go.
Probably the best pasta I have ever had, absolutely delicious and the mozzarella is to die for. Alex and his team are amazing hosts. Fabulous location. Sit outside and watch the world go by.
Popped in on the off chance of a space; know you usually need to book but they were very happy to oblige. I love the relaxed atmosphere in Sugo, the staff are great without being overbearing.
I had the Sugo House; slow cooked melt in the mouth beef shin, pork shoulder with orecchiette in a n’duja rage and my husband had the Strozzapreti with tuscan sausage, wild rocket pesto, oven roasted tomatoes and parmesan. Nice side dish of tenderstem broccoli with parmesan, breadcrumbs and garlic; perfectly cooked.
The menu has changed since we last came but it didn’t disappointed at all.
A super round off to our walk on a gorgeous autumn day.
Genuinely beautiful food and wine. It's like they have taken the best Italian food I have ever had, made each individual element 10 times more tasty and then balanced them all to perfection. Staff were very helpful and attentive. Overall a stunning evening.
We had an amazing lunch. Outstanding food across all three courses. Great house red. Friendly and attentive staff. Hands down one of best Italian restaurants in Manchester.
The nicest little Italian I’ve ever been to! The food is really delicious, so fresh and flavoursome! The ambience is pleasant and cosy! The staff are all lovely, welcoming and attentive! Is inexpensive and well worth a visit! The chocolate orange bread & butter pudding was absolutely incredible! Highly recommended! you won’t be disappointed!
My fave place!!! The food always tastes good! Highly recommend it.
Sugo Pasta Kitchen is one of the best pasta places I have eaten at around the world. The service and the food are both equally amazing!!
Love this place. Fabulous food & happy, helpful staff - makes for a great atmosphere. A few Manchester classics were heard playing on the playlist too. If I had to give a negative I'd say the portions were slightly smaller than previous visits and we didn't like the introduction of laminated menu's. Stick to the boards 😁
Lived up to the hype. Lovely atmosphere, great service, dreamy food! The only disappointment for me was that I didn't have room for dessert or coffee....Thanks Sugo ☺️
If you haven't been to Sugo already then you are an idiot.. Great staff/great atmosphere and the best food you'll eat!.. What more could you possibly want?..

We book to go here for all of our special occasions - birthdays, anniversary etc. Always great food, great atmosphere and great service. Last night was no exception. Thanks for a delicious meal!
Great service. Amazing food. Can't recommend this place enough.
Little Italy
We went with friends and the food, staff and the atmosphere was wonderful, certainly going back for a second helping!! Love it.. Surely Visit sooon..
I'm sat in Sugo Pasta Kitchen just behind the ever popular Altrincham Market and I have a very good feeling about this place. I'm here to take photos and am reminded of the first time I visited the likes of Volta or Levanter. These are small independents run by a passionate team who want to do things the right and proper way using quality ingredients. Alex De Martiis and Jonny Marcolgiese have both worked at nearby Honest Crust and along with Alex's brother Michael have set up this fine little restaurant cooking regional Southern Italian pasta dishes.
Normally I’m not too enthusiastic about going to an Italian restaurant.
It’s not that I don’t like Italian food, it’s just generally exactly the same.
Italian is Italian is Italian…..
SUD pasta however is different.
Next to Altrincham market, quite a small place so make sure you book - and expect to be sat at a table with strangers!
The tables here are all shared.
The food…..wow!
Hands down some of the best pasta dishes ever.
I had the pasta with a very slow cooked beef ragu. Id happily eat that every day.
Not the cheapest place but well worth it.
Great place. Staff know their menu and helped us choose. Pasta dishes were hearty and rich. Lovely atmosphere, feels busy but cosy.
I had an incredible dining experience at this Italian restaurant! The pasta dishes exceeded all my expectations and left me completely satisfied. To start, we indulged in the pork belly ribs, which were exceptionally tender and melt-in-your-mouth. The flavor was perfectly stimulating my appetite.
Among the various pasta options, the paccheri 'all'Amatriciana stood out as an absolute favorite. The cured pork cheek complemented the dish perfectly, adding a delicious and savory element to the already tantalizing flavors.
The staff at the restaurant were not only friendly but also very polite, enhancing the overall dining experience. We were so impressed by the quality of the food and service that we have already decided to return, specifically to enjoy the paccheri dish once again.
Visited multiple times and it serves the best pasta in Altrincham.
Had the Paccheri 'all'Amatriciana' which is good but would recommend the House Sugo which is very tasty.
Good service and heaters outside mean you don’t go cold. Book in advance.
Out of my expectations! We had the broccoli with sourdough starter and it is amazing. This starter is for vegan as well so very impressed! They are very busy so you will definitely need to book a table.
sud was on my list for months! i finally made a reservation this week, and was mind blown.
although i was a bit skeptical of the concept of communal dining, i was seated next to a lovely couple who i spoke to for about 10 minutes. the server, beatrice, was a darling who only amplified the experience.
she helped me pick a wine to go with my pasta- the paccheri with smoky cruschi peppers. the pasta was phenomenal. it was al dente, and smothered in chilli peppers, parmesan, pangrattato (which i learnt was a replacement for parmesan by the poor in southern italy) and garlic. the wine was not exactly what i had in mind, but it was a fine pairing nonetheless.
the highlight of my meal though, was the limoncello which was served in a frosted glass! served traditionally, it made me happy to see that the restaurant lives up to its standards of being an authentic eatery.
i ended with the caramel tart. the marsala gave it a warmth and subtle fragrance, and the crème fraiche cut through the sweetness of the caramel. a single grievance of mine would be the tart shell. the pastry was a bit too thin was not flaky or buttery.
overall, SUD is a restaurant that is worthy of the recognition and love it receives.
So glad that I have found a place where the food not only lives up to what you see on Instagram but surpasses it!
The food is fresh, flavoursome and fabulous!
Special credit to the meatballs. They are DIVINE, literally the best combination of flavours I've had in a while.
Staff are nice too and as a solo diner, I was very comfortable.
Will definitely eat there again.
10/10. Total quality food and flavours. Our second visit this weekend and as tasty as the first time. Also our baby ate for free on the Sunday deal which is a great offer to see. Can't wait to come again and try more dishes. We may even do starters as small plates as the buratta starter with the jam was absolutely sensational.
A lovely atmosphere to go with your lovely pasta. This place is usually listed in one of the top restaurants in Manchester and it deserves its top reputation. It's a cosy setup with some outdoor terrace seating (which has cover from the elements), the pasta is home made and comes in more exotic shapes and sizes than the usual pasta dishes you see at restaurants. The sauces are also a notch higher than those you could make at home which makes it a worthwhile trip. All very yummy. The starters and dessert were also great and tasty. I like the wine by the jug option and it makes decent table wine (more for the social aspect drink wise). Staff are polite and attentive. It is popular so you will need to book ahead (a good week for popular dinner times). It really is a great pasta joint and worth seeking out if you're in the area. There's another branch at ancoats.
We’ve been a few times to SUD/ SUGO. I think last time was the least favourite in terms of food. Couple of pointers -
- bring back the chicken wings they’re increíble. The pork ribs are nowhere near as good - hopefully this is only temporary
- No need to add lemon zest on to the olives, quite a weird flavour. The olives themselves were rock solid. Not sure if they were fresh enough. I would recommend big ripe - ideally seedless olives and just use a good quality olive oil and sea salt.
Everything else was fine. Service amazing as usual.
