Had a lovely Chilli Jacket potato in the Coffee shop a few weeks back, it was really lovely, and then a piece of homemade, jam sponge cake !! with a lovely cup of tea, then went through to the really nice lounge with comfy sofa's and had an Americano, and then went in to the bar area. The staff are all lovely to talk to, will definately be back soon in the near future. Thanks so much to all the lovely staff at the White Lion, including the lovely chef, Laura, who couldnt do enough for you. Would recomend the White Heart Hotel to anybody. Fabulous place, and really enjoyed my afternoon there !!!!

Great night at the White Hart, staff joined in with our family party. All good fun. Lovely room, very comfortable bed. Catered to our needs. The food was delicious best fish and chips outside of Hornsea, East Coast Yorkshire!

Such a lovely place to spend a few nights. Bright spacious rooms, friendly hosts, delicious cocktails and excellent range of local beers and finally a superb breakfast, especially the poached eggs! Used as a base for visiting the theme park, would definitely return again. Thank you everyone for making us so welcome and for doing an excellent job.

Lovely place to stay, great sized, clean and comfortable room. Used as a stop of for Alton Towers as less than a mile away. Unfortunately never made the park due to my son having a fall and hurting his ankle. Staff were very helpful to provide us with ice for his injury and at least we had a cracking breakfast before we drove home! Would definitely return.

Thanks so much for the warm welcome! We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Excellent service and our little ones made to feel as welcome as we were with colouring books and outside play area to keep them entertained. We look forward to coming back soon!

Just had a wonderful weekend stay here as a party of 5 adults and 1 child. A lovely pub in a pretty village with beautiful rooms and a warm welcome - couldn’t wish for more! The service was outstanding throughout and the English breakfast and Thai dinner were both perfect. If you like prawns then the coconut prawns and plum sauce starter is a must (some may have been eaten before this photo was taken)! The bar and restaurant were both clearly popular with locals. Customer dogs (and friendly neighbourhood cats) were well looked after too.

Had a great stay, very friendly. The room was very clean and spacious. Breakfast was great and quickly served. just one thing I would suggest for the room is possibly a table so you can sit and have your tea/coffee. But overall very happy will definitely be coming back.

After a long day at Alton Towers drove to the White Hart which is about 5 minutes away from the resort. There is parking available but when we arrived the car park was full.Managed to find a space right outside. Promptly shown to our pre booked table. The menu was varied although no drinks menu. Drink order was going to be taken but as we weren't ready we asked for a few more minutes. When we were ready to order we were told we had to go to the bar to order drinks. Ordered starters and mains and starters came very quickly. We ordered the chicken wings which was a good portion size and delicious . Mains took slightly longer to come but as it was all freshly cooked it was understandable that it took longer than starters. Presentation of mains was very good and the taste of the dish was excellent. All in all an excellent meal was too full to see if there was a dessert menu.I don't think there was as there wasn't one on the website. My only gripe is that the menu prices on the website weren't current but that did not spoil our great meal. We would definitely go back when we are in the area again.

Stopped here for some drinks. Very welcoming. There was a food vendor outside in the beer garden. They gave us a generous portion of pulled pork topped with various sauces which fed 2 of us.

Well where do i start. What an amazing place to stay i would definitely highly recommend the White Hart a place to stay If you're going to Alton Towers not only will you save a few quid but you will stay in the most tranquil of places, we were welcomed by jane who was so friendly and accommodating and told us everything we needed to know about the hotel. Such a beautiful little village too, with the most friendliest locals who even arranged a lift for me and my daughter to and from Alton towers as we didn't have a car and a taxi would have cost over 30pounds for a 10 minute journey, as it wasn't advised too walk by the locals as the roads are very narrow with no paths. I cant thank all the staff enough from the bar staff ,too the breakfast waitress for the service they have provided absolutely top notch. Also when we came back from Alton towers staff had been in our room and placed some balloons and a birthday card on the bed for my daughter who's 13th birthday was the day after, Such a lovely touch!!! THANK YOU AGAIN TOO EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU WHO MADE THE WEEKEND SO SPECIAL

Stayed here for 1 night, wish it could've been longer. Room was nice, no frills but clean and well presented and comfy bed. The staff were lovely and very friendly and helpful. The best part though was the Thai food, absolutely amazing. I travel to Thailand as often as possible and the food is the best in the world, and the White Hart was just as good if not better than anything you can get in Bangkok or Chiang Mai. I'd be willing to make the drive down from Scotland next time I fancy a good Thai meal.

My toddler and I visited after a day a Cbeebies Land. The staff and locals were friendly and food was delicious. A Thai menu with lots of tasty dishes to choose from, if I could have sampled every dish, I would have done! The White Hart is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Nice, welcoming olde world pub with a great drinks selection. My family and I had booked in for a Thai, and it was amazing food! No complaints there. But unfortunately, the service was dreadful. Even though we had pre-ordered our food it was an hour late coming out of the kitchen, for which the young lad waiting-on did apologise for. Fair enough, it was busy. But what was really disappointing though was that nobody asked us if we needed anything, or whether the food was alright, or whether we wanted more drinks.... so we were forced to go to get our own from the bar. All of our empty glasses, bottles and plates were left on the table, and they were still all there when we left. I've worked in catering before and one golden rule I was taught was: "Never go back to the kitchen empty handed!" Countless members of staff breezed past our rapidly filling table on many many occasions, and did absolutely nothing. Even when the waiter bought the mains we had to move our starter plates out the way so he could place the food down, but he didn't have the nous to pick them up and take them with him when he returned to the kitchen to fetch more mains. It's basic common sense really, and there's no excuse for it. One of our party spilt some curry on the table, and a couple of us attempted to clean it up with napkins. The waiter saw us but did nothing to help. And the pile of soiled napkins were still on the table when we left too. We had to go to the bar for the bill, and had to pay there too... also a bit annoying. It's such a shame really, because the food was exceptional, better I'd say than the Thai restaurant in Uttoxeter, but there, their staff are so attentive and efficient. So if it's a restaurant experience you're after then the White Hart may not be for you. But if it's a great meal in a busy pub with a "stack your own plates, wipe your own table, and get your own drinks" experience you crave, then go for it! Also, it's well worth pointing out the price..... very moderately priced indeed, especially for the large portion size. Would I go back there? Yes definitely... but I'd leave all thoughts of restaurant etiquette at home. And I'd take my own cloth!

We only had 2 days here but they were wonderful. The people we met were so lovely and friendly. John one of the directors of The White Hart spent quite sometime chatting with us and bought us a drink. The atmosphere was so relaxed and friendly this is a community run business. Our room was really comfortable and clean with coffee and tea provided. Very quiet at night so we had good night's sleep. The breakfast was amazing I couldn't quite finish all mine. We definitely recommend staying here thank you for making us feel so welcome kind regards Helen and Keith from Portsmouth xx

Stayed here this weekend. Lovely villagelocation, staff were fab especially at breakfast, room was spacious and breakfast was five star fantastic. Sadly the noise being above a pub was a bit loud so we never managed to nod off until after last orders. The room was a bit tired in bathroom but ok. Bed was comfortable and it had a long bath. We would have loved to try the Thai since it's our favourite but kids are too fussy to try so we ate elsewhere.

An absolutely lovely little country pub nestled in the heart of Staffordshire set in the Shadows of Alton Castle. This pub serves what I can only describe as as the best Thai food available. Freshly cooked to order to suit your tastes requirements. It's important 2 book in advance the dining experience. I believe at the moment that it's only from Thursday Friday Saturday that Bennie cooks. The pub itself is clean and welcoming with friendly staff. Prices within are reasonable compare two local pub prices. And the prices for meals are set at Great value. There are is also accommodation available. Whether you're visiting Alton Towers or rambling within the local Peak District. I'm looking forward to booking in again, if I could I would rate this more than the five stars that it's allowing me to do.

Warm and welcoming host - Speedy check in and room key hand off. The room (3 person - 1 double 1 single) was clean and comfortable. The door for the stairs going up to the rooms slams which causes your room door to rattle which sounds as though someone is trying to enter, which is particularly unsettling. This happens every time someone goes through that door to the stairs. This needs fixing. Ear plugs are an absolute must as there is a church nearby and a pub garden. The included breakfast was about what you'd expect - speedy service but pretty bang on average in quality. No Vegetarian/vegan hot breakfast options, which is not great. They weren't serving dinner whilst we were there on Sunday, so factor that in too. Overall I would recommend The White Hart for your short stay (especially if you are going to ATR).
