Pub is incredible! I can't believe how much its changed since it closed a few years ago. The valiant trooper was a lovely pub but it was a little run down, NOW THOUGH it's been totally refurbed, clean and new! Great selection of beer (Hawkstone, Estrella, hells and locals) 10/10 for beer and atmosphere cant wait to try food!

The Trooper has now re-opened in Aldbury! Limited hours currently (Fri, sat, Sunday), but has a lovely revamped garden area, a BBQ each evening and a great looking menu. Only slightly put off by the price of a pint (£6.50 for Hawkstone lager), but sign of the times as beer costs are rising. Will hopefully be back to eat soon!

Recently reopened after being extensively and tastefully tarted up, lots of nice wood. Two ales on offer when we visited at £5.50 a pint or £3 for a half. Food available Friday to Sunday. Drinks only weds and Thurs.

Went on Saturday afternoon for a family lunch. The renovation is so impressive, probably now the best interior of any local pub in Tring/Berkamsted area, and great atmosphere too. Everything on the menu sounded great, we all had something different and the food was delicious. Service was brilliant. Only downside not being able to contact the pub before lunch over the phone (but you can reserve tables online).

We went on a sunny Sunday afternoon sitting outside in the beautiful garden. The wood fired mains, roast lamb and pork were superb and the mac n cheese for my daughter was delicious. The red wine recommendation was excellent as well. A great venue in a very cute town.

Enjoyed a wonderful Sunday lunch last weekend and we are going back again today. Food was incredible, and the venue was lovely to sit and relax. Even has a designated area for children to play. Prices are high - but with the quality of the food it’s entirely justified.

Came here with my wife and son on Saturday for a belated birthday lunch with my in laws. Recently renovated to a very high standard, the atmosphere and decor is second to none. We’ve been looking for a pub this good since we moved to the area a few years ago and we’ve finally found it. Food was exceptional - the French onion soup for starter and beef fillet for main were both excellent and the chocolate mousse was wonderful too. The food was matched by the service. Staff were knowledgable, friendly and accommodating, whilst service was in that perfect sweet spot of not overly doting, nor wondering when they’re coming back. A high chair was brought over for our 8 month old without us having to ask and the house white was an excellent Viognier. It’s not cheap, but for the time we spent, and the quality of the food, it’s excellent value. We’ve already booked a return sitting for another birthday lunch, and I’ll undoubtedly be coming back with friends for an evening drink soon. Still thinking about that beef fillet though.

Since it’s re-opening, I’ve been to the Trooper twice and it hasn’t disappointed. The effort to restore the building sympathetically while maintaining a village pub hasn’t made any compromises and I hope the local community gets behind it. The food was excellent (hopefully more choice to follow), beer, wine and cocktails all good. The beer garden out the back is first class with brilliant landscaping. Thank you Trooper.

Excellent meal out and so nice to see the local reopened. Inside has been sympathetically restored (looks like lime distemper on the walls) and now the garden is lovely. Friendly atmosphere. Lost one star due to waitress not knowing if the passaladiere had anchovies on or not (traditionally it does, when it came there were no anchovies) and the stem of the cocktail glass was sticky. Looking forward to a more extensive menu when the full kitchen is open. Another local pub we went to a week ago could learn a thing or two by visiting The Trooper.

Beautiful garden, charming staff and absolutely fantastic food and wine - everything you hope you're going to find and so rarely do if you're looking for taste, not piles of stodge. And not part of a chain, so well deserving of support and doing such a good job within a month of opening. Five star.
